<p>            The “old” style of manufacturing and assembly of pre-engineered steel and/or metal buildings resulted in a lackluster structure that was easily identifiable at any location. This is no longer true. 21st century improvements and innovations within the steel building industry have impacted the look and function of today’s steel structures in a positive way. Any number of interior floor plan applications, in both size and orientation, as well as a multitude of exterior enhancements, have resulted in a far better building offering for to meet the demands of modern day consumers, businesses, and organizations.<br />
Many potential buyers are using the services of architects or engineers to create the design of their desired building before negotiating with or retaining any particular steel building manufacturer or broker. More than 50% of all steel building projects involve the use of an architect at some stage of the conceptual development process.<br />
Today’s steel building projects require the principals involved to become familiar with modern steel building systems’ design specification guidelines, energy consumption issues, and adherence to local building codes and regulations. This type of information is usually gathered from the specific steel building manufacturer, its dealer (if applicable), and whatever is garnered by the consumer through research. The gathering of as much comprehensive information, as possible, about steel building construction is critical to the overall success of the project.<br />
There are four essential factors to consider when preparing for any steel building project. All parties involved, prior to purchase, should be in agreement that the structure is of sound <strong><em>quality</em></strong>, adequate <strong><em>specification</em></strong>, workable <strong><em>design</em></strong>, and able to be <strong><em>erected </em></strong>easily. Without adherence to these watchwords the building may have unsound structural support, suspect finishing materials, seismic issues, and inadequate snow and wind loading to secure the proper local approvals. This four pronged approach will help ensure a positive result at project’s end.<br />
The qualities of steel buildings vary and, like most everything else, additional quality means more money spent. A 26 gauge steel standard, as a minimum, throughout any planned building along with a high psi rating for both the wall and roof panels will satisfy most expectancies in structural performance. Specifications are available from most manufacturers to point out their pre-engineered features. These should be of, at least, industry guide lined minimums. The design of the building needs to be reviewed with the manufacturer prior to purchase to see if they can accommodate all of the required features that are planned. For instance, make sure to deal with a company that can provide clear span capability (i.e. no necessary interior supports) if you are in need of large unobstructed spaces under roof. Easy erection processes can be verified by making sure that all components are pre-engineered at the factory prior to delivery to the work site.
